Biography.

Mertxe Hernández is a dynamic designer from Barcelona and has been, from the beginning of her career, one of the most admired designers by a demanding and avant-garde public.

She graduated from the Escuela Superior de Diseño y Moda Felicidad Duce in Barcelona.

In 1997, she created her own label M T X for women and she started to participate in Espacio Gaudí Nuevos Diseñadores (Gaudi Space for New Designers) and in collective fashion shows.

As well as being praised by the Spanish fashion press, she has appeared in the fashion press of France, Italy, Holland, Germany, Japan and Singapore.

Her designs are characterized by a personal touch that combines comfort with risk. She manipulates and experiments with fabrics, layers multiple fabrics and uses silk printing techniques. Her designs have an impeccable cut made with high quality fabrics combined with more alternative materials.

Fashion magazines, wardrobe from TV productions and advertising agencies ask for her designs to be used on their projects.

Her clothes are sold in different stores in Spain.

Mertxe Hernández opened her first store in 2001, C/ Rec 32, in the Born in Barcelona and in 2002 she was invited to participate in Pasarela Abierta de Murcia.

She was awarded the Dona Jove Empresaria Prize by l´Associació de Dones Emprenedores Odame in 2004.

She counts among her clients Cirque du Soleil, Turisme de Barcelona, the Picasso Museum, The shop of the Gran Teatre del Liceo and Laie la Pedrera for whom she has designed merchandising lines of T shirts.

In 2006 Mertxe Hernández appeared in the book Salmones en Barcelona,...a contracorriente, Vol IIalong with 9 other artists from different disciplines.

She has also collaborated with the Universidad de Bellas Artes de Barcelona, giving seminars and workshops.
